Steps Ahead (published in The Australian Financial Review on the 27 February 2016) references two of our staircases.
The stairs pictured here bridge between an existing ground level and new first floor extension. They create a striking focal point rising to capture and maximise panoramic elevated bay views. Spaces are not designed to be experienced from static locations with the organic shape of the staircase varying from differing viewpoints.
The staircase is formed by a continuously welded steel structure craned into location. The steel is wrapped in cost effective plaster and carpet materials, however the result is stunning. The unique shape of the staircase also maintains head height under the glazed roof above that is angled to satisfy boundary setback requirements.
