"A house design that takes in nature's best… Big windows and wonderful views are just part of the appeal of this well-thought-out home, which is characterised by soaring ceilings, interesting finishes and unusual angles"
The Herald Sun , written by Joanne Trzcinski
" Silver organza curtains frame the large living room window, creating a cinematic feel… A sense of volume and privacy - the idea that you could be somewhere other than the suburbs."

“Andrew Bartholomeusz of Saaj Design was presented with an interesting challenge when asked to design two townhouses on Beach Rd, Hampton. How best to ensure both properties availed themselves of the fabulous view out the front on what was a fairly narrow block with strict setback requirements? His solution was to use two semi-circles as the main living spaces, sit them on top of each other and turn the axis slightly on the upper level. This twisted circular shape provides the footprint for both houses and it works to great effect providing access to the all-important vista, as well as creating more usable space inside than a conventional design ever could.”

Panoramic bay views
The bay and Sandringham Yacht Club, opposite the house, provided inspiration for several elements of the townhouse… Curves both inside and out reference many nautical themes: waves, sails, the hull of a yacht and so on. The dramatic exterior is finished in an Indiana Copper colour which contrasts well with the bluestone in the property’s fence.

This project required two dwellings to be built on an unusually large, sloping domestic block. The potential views onto Darebin Creek, park-like trees and open grass plains were optimistic. The shapes respond to the site, the views, even the adjoining properties. The result is ambiguous; it could be one house; it could be multiple houses but small clues reveal that it is actually two.
Grand townhouses.
"Built on an unusually large slopping block, the design required the homes to sit side by side, take advantage of the potential bush views and to provide privacy. The exteriors reveal sculpted and highly articulated shapes with an expressed steel fascia detail creating a three dimensional jig-saw puzzle."

Side by side townhouses.
“Saaj is both adopting key aspects of its single house design and consciously transferring these house-like qualities to a boutique townhouse project. While striking sail-like facades and curved rooftops create continuity – as do colours, materials and textures – allowing the eye to read each ‘island’ structure as a whole, every townhouse has been individually designed so none look identical.”
